A use-after-free vulnerability can occur in WebSockets when the object holding the connection is freed before the disconnection operation is finished. This results in an exploitable crash. This vulnerability affects Thunderbird < 52.3, Firefox ESR < 52.3, and Firefox < 55.

If a user were tricked in to opening a specially crafted website in a browsing context, an attacker could potentially exploit these to bypass same-origin restrictions, bypass CSP restrictions, obtain sensitive information, spoof the origin of modal alerts, cause a denial of service via application crash, or execute arbitrary code. Various other issues were also addressed.

Security Fix: Multiple flaws were found in the processing of malformed web content.
