CVE-2012-0831

Status Candidate

Overview

PHP before 5.3.10 does not properly perform a temporary change to the magic_quotes_gpc directive during the importing of environment variables, which makes it easier for remote attackers to conduct SQL injection attacks via a crafted request, related to main/php_variables.c, sapi/cgi/cgi_main.c, and sapi/fpm/fpm/fpm_main.c.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2013-1307-01
Posted Oct 1, 2013
Authored by Red Hat | Site access.redhat.com

Red Hat Security Advisory 2013-1307-01 - PHP is an HTML-embedded scripting language commonly used with the Apache HTTP Server. It was found that PHP did not properly handle file names with a NULL character. A remote attacker could possibly use this flaw to make a PHP script access unexpected files and bypass intended file system access restrictions. It was found that PHP did not check for carriage returns in HTTP headers, allowing intended HTTP response splitting protections to be bypassed. Depending on the web browser the victim is using, a remote attacker could use this flaw to perform HTTP response splitting attacks.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2013-0514-02 - PHP is an HTML-embedded scripting language commonly used with the Apache HTTP Server. It was found that PHP did not check for carriage returns in HTTP headers, allowing intended HTTP response splitting protections to be bypassed. Depending on the web browser the victim is using, a remote attacker could use this flaw to perform HTTP response splitting attacks. An integer signedness issue, leading to a heap-based buffer underflow, was found in the PHP scandir() function. If a remote attacker could upload an excessively large number of files to a directory the scandir() function runs on, it could cause the PHP interpreter to crash or, possibly, execute arbitrary code.

Mandriva Linux Security Advisory 2012-065
Posted Apr 27, 2012
Authored by Mandriva | Site mandriva.com

Mandriva Linux Security Advisory 2012-065 - The PDORow implementation in PHP before 5.3.9 does not properly interact with the session feature, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service via a crafted application that uses a PDO driver for a fetch and then calls the session_start function, as demonstrated by a crash of the Apache HTTP Server. The php_register_variable_ex function in php_variables.c in PHP 5.3.9 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a request containing a large number of variables, related to improper handling of array variables. Insufficient validating of upload name leading to corrupted $_FILES indices. Various other issues have also been addressed.

Ubuntu Security Notice 1358-2 - USN 1358-1 fixed multiple vulnerabilities in PHP. The fix for CVE-2012-0831 introduced a regression where the state of the magic_quotes_gpc setting was not correctly reflected when calling the ini_get() function. Various other issues were also addressed.

Ubuntu Security Notice USN-1358-1
Posted Feb 10, 2012
Authored by Ubuntu | Site security.ubuntu.com

Ubuntu Security Notice 1358-1 - It was discovered that PHP computed hash values for form parameters without restricting the ability to trigger hash collisions predictably. This could allow a remote attacker to cause a denial of service by sending many crafted parameters. ATTENTION: this update changes previous PHP behavior by limiting the number of external input variables to 1000. This may be increased by adding a "max_input_vars" directive to the php.ini configuration file. See http://www.php.net/manual/en/info.configuration.php#ini.max-input-vars for more information. Various other issues were also addressed.
