DESCRIPTION:
A vulnerability has been reported in SonicWALL SonicOS, which can be
exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) or
potentially compromise a vulnerable system.
The vulnerability is caused due to a format string error in the
logfile parsing function in SonicOS. This can be exploited to cause a
crash and potentially execute arbitrary code e.g. via a specially
crafted string containing format string specifiers in a query to a
restricted domain, in the XAUTH username when establishing a GroupVPN
tunnel, or in the username via the login page of the web frontend.
The vulnerability is reported in SonicWALL PRO 4100 with SonicOS
4.0.0.2-51e Standard and Enhanced. Other versions may also be
affected.
SOLUTION:
Do not use the SonicOS GUI to view the log files.
