CVE-2011-4110

Status Candidate

Overview

The user_update function in security/keys/user_defined.c in the Linux kernel 2.6 allows local users to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and kernel oops) via vectors related to a user-defined key and "updating a negative key into a fully instantiated key."

Red Hat Security Advisory 2012-0333-01 - Updates have been made to the Linux kernel. SG_IO ioctl SCSI requests on partitions or LVM volumes could be passed to the underlying block device, allowing a privileged user to bypass restrictions and gain read and write access to the entire block device. A local, unprivileged user could use an integer overflow flaw in drm_mode_dirtyfb_ioctl() to cause a denial of service or escalate their privileges. A local, unprivileged user could use an integer overflow flaw in drm_mode_dirtyfb_ioctl() to cause a denial of service or escalate their privileges. A local, unprivileged user could use a flaw in the Performance Events implementation to cause a denial of service. Various other issues have also been addressed.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2012-0010-01 - The kernel-rt packages contain the Linux kernel, the core of any Linux operating system. A malicious CIFS server could send a specially-crafted response to a directory read request that would result in a denial of service or privilege escalation on a system that has a CIFS share mounted. The way fragmented IPv6 UDP datagrams over the bridge with UDP Fragmentation Offload functionality on were handled could allow a remote attacker to cause a denial of service.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2011-1479-01 - The kernel packages contain the Linux kernel, the core of any Linux operating system. Using PCI passthrough without interrupt remapping support allowed Xen hypervisor guests to generate MSI interrupts and thus potentially inject traps. A privileged guest user could use this flaw to crash the host or possibly escalate their privileges on the host. The fix for this issue can prevent PCI passthrough working and guests starting. Various other issues were also addressed.
