nufw-2.0.18.tar.gz
Posted Apr 3, 2007

NuFW is a set of daemons that filters packets on a per-user basis. The gateway authorizes a packet depending on which remote user has sent it. On the client side, users have to run a client that sends authentication packets to the gateway. On the server side, the gateway associates user ids to packets, thus enabling the possibility to filter packets on a user basis. Furthermore, the server architecture is done to use external authentication source such as an LDAP server.

Changes: Bugfix release.

When NuFW tries to authenticate a packet and when this packet comes from a n IP where no client is running, then it can decide that this is a guest account which has some specific authorization.

Changes: This new release fixes bugs in different part of the code. The main issue is a work around a GNUtls problem. GNUtls is not in fact really thread safe and this was causing instabilities of the TLS session between all the components of NuFW. 1.0.22 also fixes some memory leaks.

An authenticated user using a specially modified client could by generating a lot of network traffic hang after a long delay one thread of the authentication server. This could cause nuauth to disfunction till the system destroys the concerned socket. In extreme cases this could lead to a denial of service on the authentication server. 1.0.21 also features some code cleaning.
