TITLE:
NPDS REvolution Cross-Site Request Forgery and Script Insertion
Vulnerabilities
SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA39828
VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/39828/
DESCRIPTION:
Cut-Me-Own-Throat Dibbler has discovered some vulnerabilities in NPDS
REvolution, which can be exploited by malicious users to conduct
script insertion attacks and by malicious people to conduct
cross-site request forgery attacks.
1) Input passed via e.g. the "name" parameter to user.php while
updating user profile is not properly sanitised before being used.
This can be exploited to insert arbitrary HTML and script code, which
will be executed in a user's browser session in context of an affected
site when the malicious data is being viewed.
NOTE: Other scripts and parameters may also be affected.
2) The application allows users to perform certain actions via HTTP
requests without performing any validity checks to verify the
requests. This can be exploited to e.g. add an administrative user by
tricking a logged in administrator into visiting a malicious web
site.
The vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 10.02. Other versions
may also be affected.
SOLUTION:
Filter malicious characters and character sequences in a proxy. Do
not browse untrusted websites or follow untrusted links while logged
in to the application.
