TITLE:
Dnsmasq Denial of Service and Buffer Overflow Vulnerabilities

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA36394

VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/36394/

DESCRIPTION:
Some vulnerabilities have been reported in Dnsmasq, which can be
exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) and
potentially compromise a vulnerable system.

1) A boundary error within the "tftp_request()" function in
src/tftp.c can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow by
sending specially crafted requests to the server.

2) A NULL pointer dereference error within the "tftp_request()"
function in src/ftpd.c can be exploited to cause a crash by sending a
specially crafted request to the server.

Successful exploitation of both vulnerabilities requires that Dnsmasq
is compiled with TFTP support. Successful exploitation of
vulnerability #1 also requires that Dnsmasq is configured with a long
directory prefix.

The vulnerability is reported in versions prior to 2.50.

SOLUTION:
Update to version 2.50.
