DESCRIPTION:
shinnai has discovered two vulnerabilities in Microsoft Visual Basic,
which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's
system.
The vulnerabilities are caused due to boundary errors in MSDE.dll
when handling .dsr files and can be exploited to cause stack-based
buffer overflows via a .dsr file with an overly-long "ConnectionName"
or "CommandName" string.
Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code, but
requires that the user is tricked into e.g. opening a malicious .dsr
file, opening the Object window via e.g. "View Object", and clicking
on the "ConnectionName" or "CommandName".
The vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 6.0 (SP6). Other
versions may also be affected.
SOLUTION:
Do not open untrusted .dsr files.
