TITLE:
Mambo AkoBook Component Script Insertion
SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA26706
VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/26706/
CRITICAL:
Moderately critical
IMPACT:
Cross Site Scripting
WHERE:
>From remote
SOFTWARE:
AkoBook 3.x (component for Mambo)
http://secunia.com/product/15620/
DESCRIPTION:
Rubén Ventura Piña has discovered two vulnerabilities in the AkoBook
component for Mambo, which can be exploited by malicious people to
conduct script insertion attacks.
Input passed to the "gbmail" and "gbpage" parameters in the Mambo
installation's index.php script (when "option" is set to
"com_akobook" and "func" to "sign") is not properly sanitised before
being stored. This can be exploited to insert HTML attributes with
script code, which is executed in a user's browser session in context
of an affected site when the guestbook is viewed.
The vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 3.42. Other versions may
also be affected.
SOLUTION:
Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised.
