Ubuntu Security Notice 1702-1 - It was discovered that PHP incorrectly handled the openssl_encrypt function when used with an empty string. An attacker could use this flaw to cause PHP to disclose arbitrary memory contents and possibly expose sensitive information.

A security issue affects these releases of Ubuntu and its derivatives:

- Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

Summary:

PHP could be made to expose sensitive information over the network.

Software Description:
- php5: HTML-embedded scripting language interpreter

Details:

It was discovered that PHP incorrectly handled the openssl_encrypt function
when used with an empty string. An attacker could use this flaw to cause
PHP to disclose arbitrary memory contents and possibly expose sensitive
information.

Update instructions:

The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following
package versions:

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS:
php5 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.5

In general, a standard system update will make all the necessary changes.
