DESCRIPTION:
A vulnerability has been discovered in the Whois Search plugin for
WordPress, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct
cross-site scripting attacks.
Input passed to the "domain" parameter in index.php is not properly
sanitised in
wp-content/plugins/wordpress-whois-search/vendors/samswhois/samswhois.inc.php
before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute
arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context
of an affected site.
Successful exploitation requires that the "WHOIS" widget is enabled.
The vulnerability is confirmed in version 1.4.2.3. Other versions may
also be affected.
SOLUTION:
Update to version 1.4.2.3 which fixes a vector that does not require
the widget to be enabled. Edit the source code to ensure that input
is properly sanitised.
