DESCRIPTION:
Luigi Auriemma has reported two vulnerabilities in GenStat, which can
be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system.
1) An array-indexing error when processing Book (GWB) files can be
exploited to corrupt memory via a specially crafted ".gwb" file.
2) An error when processing Spreadsheet (GSH) files can be exploited
to cause a heap-based buffer overflow via a specially crafted ".gsh"
file.
Successful exploitation of the vulnerabilities may allow execution of
arbitrary code, but requires tricking a user into opening a malicious
file.
The vulnerabilities are reported in version 14.1.0.5943. Other
versions may also be affected.
SOLUTION:
Do not open files from untrusted sources.
