DESCRIPTION:
Kees Cook has reported some vulnerabilities in MiniSSDPd, which can
be exploited by malicious people to disclose system information,
cause a DoS (Denial of Service), and compromise a vulnerable system.
1) Various errors within the "processRequest()" function
(minissdpd.c) can be exploited to e.g. cause buffer overflows by
sending specially crafted packets to the service.
2) An error within the "processRequest()" function (minissdpd.c) can
be exploited to disclose stack memory by sending specially crafted
packets to the service.
3) Improper handling of failed memory allocations can be exploited to
cause a crash by sending specially crafted packets to the service.
4) An error within the handling of "cache-control" packets can be
exploited to cause a crash by sending specially crafted
"cache-control" packets to the service.
5) An off-by-one error within the packet parsing can be exploited to
cause a crash by sending specially crafted packets to the service.
SOLUTION:
Use a firewall to restrict access to trusted devices only.
