Mandriva Linux Security Advisory 2013-167
Posted May 28, 2013
Authored by Mandriva | Site mandriva.com

Mandriva Linux Security Advisory 2013-167 - OpenVPN 2.3.0 and earlier running in UDP mode are subject to chosen ciphertext injection due to a non-constant-time HMAC comparison function. Plaintext recovery may be possible using a padding oracle attack on the CBC mode cipher implementation of the crypto library, optimistically at a rate of about one character per 3 hours. PolarSSL seems vulnerable to such an attack; the vulnerability of OpenSSL has not been verified or tested.

Mandriva Linux Security Advisory 2013-072

Mandriva Linux Security Advisory 2013-072 - When dnsmasq before 2.63 is used in conjunctions with certain configurations of libvirtd, network packets from prohibited networks may be sent to the dnsmasq application and processed. This can result in DNS amplification attacks for example. This update adds a new option --bind-dynamic which is immune to this problem. This update completes the fix for provided with dnsmasq-2.63. It was found that after the upstream patch for - replied to remote TCP-protocol based DNS queries (UDP protocol ones were corrected, but TCP ones not) from prohibited networks, when the --bind-dynamic option was used, - when --except-interface lo option was used dnsmasq didn't answer local or remote UDP DNS queries, but still allowed TCP protocol based DNS queries, - when --except-interface lo option was not used local / remote TCP DNS queries were also still answered by dnsmasq. This update fix these three cases.

HexInject 1.5
Posted Feb 22, 2013
Authored by crossbower | Site hexinject.sourceforge.net

HexInject is a hexadecimal and raw packet injector and sniffer. It can be easily combined with other tools to provide a powerful command line framework for raw network access. It will automatically set the correct checksum (IP, TCP, UDP, ICMP).

Changes: HexInject has now reached version 1.5 and a few changes have been made. In particular the features have been redistributed between multiple tools, following the unix philosophy.

GNUnet P2P Framework 0.9.5a
Posted Feb 6, 2013
Authored by Christian Grothoff | Site ovmj.org

GNUnet is a peer-to-peer framework with focus on providing security. All peer-to-peer messages in the network are confidential and authenticated. The framework provides a transport abstraction layer and can currently encapsulate the network traffic in UDP (IPv4 and IPv6), TCP (IPv4 and IPv6), HTTP, or SMTP messages. GNUnet supports accounting to provide contributing nodes with better service. The primary service build on top of the framework is anonymous file sharing.

Changes: This maintenance release fixes a few minor bugs.

Asterisk Project Security Advisory - AST-2012-014
Posted Jan 3, 2013
Authored by Mark Michelson | Site asterisk.org

Asterisk Project Security Advisory - Asterisk has several places where messages received over various network transports may be copied in a single stack allocation. In the case of TCP, since multiple packets in a stream may be concatenated together, this can lead to large allocations that overflow the stack. In the case of SIP, it is possible to do this before a session is established. Keep in mind that SIP over UDP is not affected by this vulnerability. With HTTP and XMPP, a session must first be established before the vulnerability may be exploited. The XMPP vulnerability exists both in the res_jabber.so module in Asterisk 1.8, 10, and 11 as well as the res_xmpp.so module in Asterisk 11.

Nmap Port Scanner 6.25
Posted Nov 30, 2012
Authored by Fyodor | Site insecure.org

Nmap is a utility for port scanning large networks, although it works fine for single hosts. Sometimes you need speed, other times you may need stealth. In some cases, bypassing firewalls may be required. Not to mention the fact that you may want to scan different protocols (UDP, TCP, ICMP, etc.). Nmap supports Vanilla TCP connect() scanning, TCP SYN (half open) scanning, TCP FIN, Xmas, or NULL (stealth) scanning, TCP ftp proxy (bounce attack) scanning, SYN/FIN scanning using IP fragments (bypasses some packet filters), TCP ACK and Window scanning, UDP raw ICMP port unreachable scanning, ICMP scanning (ping-sweep), TCP Ping scanning, Direct (non portmapper) RPC scanning, Remote OS Identification by TCP/IP Fingerprinting, and Reverse-ident scanning. Nmap also supports a number of performance and reliability features such as dynamic delay time calculations, packet timeout and retransmission, parallel port scanning, detection of down hosts via parallel pings.

Changes: Contains hundreds of improvements, including 85 new NSE scripts, nearly 1,000 new OS and service detection fingerprints, performance enhancements such as the new kqueue and poll I/O engines, better IPv6 traceroute support, Windows 8 improvements, and much more!

This Metasploit module exploits a remote buffer overflow in HP Intelligent Management Center UAM. The vulnerability exists in the uam.exe component, when using sprint in a insecure way for logging purposes. The vulnerability can be triggered by sending a malformed packet to the 1811/UDP port. The module has been successfully tested on HP iMC 5.0 E0101 and UAM 5.0 E0102 over Windows Server 2003 SP2 (DEP bypass).

Zero Day Initiative Advisory 12-171
Posted Aug 29, 2012
Authored by Tipping Point | Site zerodayinitiative.com

Zero Day Initiative Advisory 12-171 - This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations of Hewlett-Packard Intelligent Management Center. Authentication is not required to exploit this vulnerability. The flaw exists within the uam.exe component which listens by default on UDP port 1811. When logging received actions to a log file, sprintf is used to build the log message. The process does not properly verify the destination buffer on the stack is of sufficient size to handle the newly created string. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code under the context of the SYSTEM user.

Network Instruments Observer SNMP Processing Buffer Overflows
Posted Jun 8, 2012
Authored by Dmitriy Pletnev | Site secunia.com

Secunia Research has discovered two vulnerabilities in Network Instruments Observer, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system. A boundary error in the "CSnmp::DecodePacket()" method (NISNMP.DLL) when processing the community string can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow via a specially crafted SNMP datagram. An error in the "CSnmp::DecodePacket()" method (NISNMP.DLL) when processing an Object Identifier (OID) can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow via a specially crafted Trap PDU (0xA4) SNMP datagram sent to UDP port 162. Successful exploitation of the vulnerabilities allows execution of arbitrary code, but may require the attacker to enumerate or guess the SNMP port. Observer version 15.1 Build 0007.0000 is affected.

This is the first release that has a compatible Java API. gnunet-java 0.9.3 can be used to access many of GNUnet's services from Java. This release also contains the beginnings of a new GNUnet-based Naming System (GNS), implementing a fully decentralized, backwards-compatible replacement for DNS (many important features and documentation are still missing, but the foundations are there).
