CVE-2017-16645

Status Candidate

Overview

The ims_pcu_get_cdc_union_desc function in drivers/input/misc/ims-pcu.c in the Linux kernel through 4.13.11 allows local users to cause a denial of service (ims_pcu_parse_cdc_data out-of-bounds read and system crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted USB device.

Ubuntu Security Notice USN-3754-1
Posted Aug 27, 2018
Authored by Ubuntu | Site security.ubuntu.com

Ubuntu Security Notice 3754-1 - Ralf Spenneberg discovered that the ext4 implementation in the Linux kernel did not properly validate meta block groups. An attacker with physical access could use this to specially craft an ext4 image that causes a denial of service. It was discovered that an information disclosure vulnerability existed in the ACPI implementation of the Linux kernel. A local attacker could use this to expose sensitive information. Various other issues were also addressed.

A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code. It was discovered that the KVM implementation in the Linux kernel allowed passthrough of the diagnostic I/O port 0x80. An attacker in a guest VM could use this to cause a denial of service in the host OS. Various other issues were also addressed.
