MIME Defanger is a flexible MIME e-mail scanner designed to protect Windows clients from viruses and other harmful executables. It works with Sendmail 8.11 / 8.12's "milter" API and will alter or delete various parts of a MIME message according to a flexible configuration file.

Changes: Clarification of the license, Added -x option that allows users to change the X-Scanned-Authored header, added support for Trophie, and various other bug and performance fixes.

MIME Defanger is a flexible MIME e-mail scanner designed to protect Windows clients from viruses and other harmful executables. It works with Sendmail 8.11 / 8.12's "milter" API and will alter or delete various parts of a MIME message according to a flexible configuration file.

Changes: A final bug in the scheduler has been fixed, and mimedefang-multiplexor should run very smoothly on busy mail servers. You can now skip body filtering based on sender, relay, or recipient; this improves performance if you don't want to filter outbound mail. Bug fixes added.

Changes: The quarantine notification message was improved and some less important syslog messages were lowered from 'info' to 'debug'. Default permissions on /etc/mail/mimedefang-ip-key were tightened.

Changes: Now compiles on BSD. Improved support for the KAV anti-virus scanner, and supports two new scanners: Clam Anti-Virus and Norman Virus Control. Sendmail 8.11 is no longer officially supported; you must use Sendmail 8.12 with MIMEDefang.

Changes: Default filter has improved filename matching which should yield fewer false alarms. Support was added for the F-Risk F-Prot virus scanner. The -U option drops privileges sooner - you may have to change your Sendmail configuration file.

Changes: Fixed a typo in the configure script. The SpamAssassin calls were redesigned to use a persistent SpamAssassin object, which should greatly improve performance.

Changes: Embedded CRs in mail headers are now properly handled. Emulating the Outlook bug turns out to be the wrong thing to do - version 2.5 handles malformed mail headers much better.

Changes: New actions were added (action_replace_with_url, action_notify_administrator). Now possible to customize rule sets on a per-domain basis, which is useful if you host many virtual domains. Now issues an SMTP temporary-failure code if a filter fails, which is safer than the old behavior of adding a warning and allowing mail through.

Changes: Supports sendmail 8.12. An "append_boilerplate" action has been added to append boilerplate text to outgoing mail. A "-test" feature has been added to test filters for correctness before installing them on a live server. Also cleaned up the code a little and fixed some bugs.
