TITLE:
DirectAdmin Database Backup and Restore Vulnerabilities
SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA34861
VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/34861/
DESCRIPTION:
A security issue and a vulnerability have been reported in
DirectAdmin, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to gain
escalated privileges.
1) The application creates temporary files in an insecure manner when
handling database backup requests sent to "CMD_DB". This can be
exploited to overwrite arbitrary files with root privileges via
symlink attacks.
2) Input passed via the "name" parameter to "CMD_DB" (when "action"
is set to "restore") is not properly sanitised before being used to
execute shell commands. This can be exploited to inject and execute
arbitrary commands with root privileges via shell meta characters.
The security issue and the vulnerability are reported in versions
prior to 1.33.4.
SOLUTION:
Update to version 1.33.4.
