TITLE:
POP Peeper UIDL Processing Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA34077

VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/34077/

DESCRIPTION:
Jeremy Brown has discovered a vulnerability in POP Peeper, which can
be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system.

The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the processing
of POP3 responses. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer
overflow via an overly long parameter attached to an UIDL response.

Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code, but
requires that the user is tricked into connecting to a malicious mail
server.

The vulnerability is confirmed in version 3.4.0.0. Other versions may
also be affected.

SOLUTION:
Do not connect to untrusted mail servers.
