TITLE:
SonicBB SQL Injection and Cross-Site Scripting

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA25279

VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/25279/

CRITICAL:
Moderately critical

IMPACT:
Cross Site Scripting, Manipulation of data, Exposure of sensitive
information

WHERE:
>From remote

SOFTWARE:
SonicBB 1.x
http://secunia.com/product/14235/

DESCRIPTION:
Jesper Jurcenoks has discovered some vulnerabilities in SonicBB,
which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct SQL injection
attacks or cross-site scripting attacks.

1) Input passed to the "part" parameter in search.php or the "id"
parameter in viewforum.php or members.php is not properly sanitised
before being used in SQL queries. This can be exploited to manipulate
SQL queries by injecting arbitrary SQL code.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability allows e.g. retrieving
administrator usernames and password hashes, but requires that
"magic_quotes_gpc" is disabled.

2) Input passed to the "part" parameter in search.php is not properly
sanitised before it is returned to the user. This can be exploited to
execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in
context of an affected site.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability requires that
"magic_quotes_gpc" is disabled.

The vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 1.0. Other versions may
also be affected.

SOLUTION:
Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised.

Set "magic_quotes_gpc" in php.ini to On.
