Ubuntu Security Notice 6472-1 - It was discovered that GNU Scientific Library incorrectly handled certain inputs. A security issue affects these releases of Ubuntu and its derivatives:

- Ubuntu 23.04
- Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Available with Ubuntu Pro)
- Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
- Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Available with Ubuntu Pro)
- Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Available with Ubuntu Pro)

Summary:

GNU Scientific Library could be made to crash or execute arbitrary code if it
received specially crafted input.

Software Description:
- gsl: A modern numerical library for C and C++ programmers

Details:

It was discovered that GNU Scientific Library incorrectly handled certain
inputs. If a user or an automated system were tricked into opening a specially
crafted input file, a remote attacker could possibly use this issue to cause a
denial of service or execute arbitrary code.

Update instructions:

The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following
package versions:
