pmfirewall-1.1.4.tar.gz
Posted Mar 28, 2000
Authored by Rick Johnson | Site pointman.org

PMFirewall is an Ipchains Firewall and Masquerading Configuration Utility for Linux. It is designed to allow a beginner to build a custom firewall with little or no ipchains experience. This firewall should work for most Workstations, Servers, and Dual NIC routers using either a dialup or LAN setup. It is restrictive to outside attacks while still being as transparent as possible to those inside.

Changes: The ability to specify IP ranges for ports, rules file loading reorganizations, generated rules are added to rules.local instead of rules.2, a man page, chkconfig commands for RedHat-based systems, the ability to turn off IP autodetection and specify your own IP.

Peachpit is an automated "tarpit" utility aimed at interfering with censorware spiders which crawl the web looking for sites to ban. Based on Sugarplum and harmless to all other Web agents, peachpit identifies the spiders used by censorware makers from host/agent data, then bogs the spider down in recursive, sleep-laden page output.

Linux Trace Toolkit is a tool used to reconstruct the dynamic behavior of a linux system. LTT fills the gap left by tools such as gprof, strace, ps and many others when attempting to know what is going on with your linux system at every moment by providing it's user with all the information required to reconstruct a system's behavior during a certain period of time. One can know exactly the dynamics of a system. Why do certain synchronization problems occur? What exactly happens to an application when a packet is received for it? Overall, where do all the applications that I use pass their time? Where are the I/O latencies in a given application? etc. Requires kernel patch.

Changes: Support for very large trace files, bug fixes.

Mobileunit Security Advisory 001 - Privacy hole in Go Express Search. Disney's Go Express Search operates an http server at port 1234 without authentication. Remote users can submit search queries, and view queries and personal links left by other users. It's possible to access the configuration interface, which can reveal the e-mail address of the user who registered it. Configuration settings can be changed remotely to, for instance, add, remove or alter personal links.

mason-0.13.9.2.tar.gz
Posted Mar 28, 2000
Authored by William Stearns | Site pobox.com

Mason is a tool that interactively builds a firewall using Linux' ipfwadm or ipchains firewalling. You leave mason running on the firewall machine while you are making all the kinds of connections that you want the firewall to support (and want it to block). Mason gives you a list of firewall rules that exactly allow and block those connections. It can either build a firewall from scratch for you or supplement an existing firewall.

Changes: Development release for those indending on using Mason with Netfilter/IPTables. Live decision process implemented.

Strace for NT is a debugging/investigation utility for examining the NT system calls made by a process. It is meant to be used like the strace (or truss) on linux and other unix OSes. What make strace different is that is hooks every system call instead of just selected ones, giving you an excellent idea of what the process is really doing.

SAINT is the Security Administrator's Integrated Network Tool. It gathers as much information about remote hosts and networks as possible by examining all network services and potential security flaws. The collected data can then be analyzed using a simple rules-based system (or via other included interfaces). In Exploratory Mode, SAINT will examine the avenues of trust and dependency and iterate further data collection runs over secondary hosts.
