SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:

VERIFY ADVISORY:

CRITICAL:
Moderately critical

IMPACT:
DoS, System access

WHERE:
>From local network

SOFTWARE:
Zilab Chat and Instant Messaging (ZIM) Server 2.x
http://secunia.com/product/17748/

DESCRIPTION:
Luigi Auriemma has discovered some vulnerabilities in Zilab Chat and
Instant Messaging (ZIM) Server, which can be exploited by malicious
people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) or compromise a vulnerable
system.

1) Boundary errors within the "Local ZIM Server" (zcs.exe) can be
exploited to cause stack-based or heap-based buffer overflows via
overly long, specially crafted packets sent to default port
7700/TCP.

Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code.

2) A NULL-pointer dereference error within the "Local ZIM Server" can
be exploited to crash the service via a specially crafted packet sent
to default port 7700/TCP.

The vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 2.0 and reported in
version 2.1. Other versions may also be affected.

SOLUTION:
Use only in a trusted network environment.
