OpenSSH 9.2p1
Posted Feb 2, 2023
Authored by Damien Miller | Site openssh.com

This is a Linux/portable port of OpenBSD's excellent OpenSSH. OpenSSH is based on the last free version of Tatu Ylonen's SSH with all patent-encumbered algorithms removed, all known security bugs fixed, new features reintroduced, and many other clean-ups.

Changes: This release contains fixes for two security problems and a memory safety problem. The memory safety problem is not believed to be exploitable, but they report most network-reachable memory faults as security bugs.

Posted Jan 30, 2023
Authored by Samir Vaidya | Site github.com

OpenStego is a tool implemented in Java for generic steganography, with support for password-based encryption of the data. It supports plugins for various steganographic algorithms (currently, only Least Significant Bit algorithm is supported for images).

Changes: Follow XDG spec to store openstego configuration file.

cryptmount Filesystem Manager 6.2.0
Posted Jan 9, 2023
Authored by RW Penney | Site cryptmount.sourceforge.net

cryptmount is a utility for creating and managing secure filing systems on GNU/Linux systems. After initial setup, it allows any user to mount or unmount filesystems on demand, solely by providing the decryption password, with any system devices needed to access the filing system being configured automatically. A wide variety of encryption schemes (provided by the kernel dm-crypt system and the libgcrypt library) can be used to protect both the filesystem and the access key. The protected filing systems can reside in either ordinary files or disk partitions. The package also supports encrypted swap partitions, and automatic configuration on system boot-up.

Changes: Enabled libudev by default. Updated various maintainer URLs to point to github.com. Reduced verbosity of manual-page variable substitution. Improved unit-test support for NVME devices.

GNU Privacy Guard 2.4.0
Posted Dec 20, 2022
Site gnupg.org

GnuPG (the GNU Privacy Guard or GPG) is GNU's tool for secure communication and data storage. It can be used to encrypt data and to create digital signatures. It includes an advanced key management facility and is compliant with the proposed OpenPGP Internet standard as described in RFC2440. As such, it is meant to be compatible with PGP from NAI, Inc. Because it does not use any patented algorithms, it can be used without any restrictions.

Changes: A couple dozen bug fixes and updates added.

Stegano 0.11.1
Posted Nov 22, 2022
Authored by Cedric Bonhomme | Site github.com

Stegano is a basic Python Steganography module. Stegano implements two methods of hiding: using the red portion of a pixel to hide ASCII messages, and using the Least Significant Bit (LSB) technique. It is possible to use a more advanced LSB method based on integers sets. The sets (Sieve of Eratosthenes, Fermat, Carmichael numbers, etc.) are used to select the pixels used to hide the information.

Changes: Fixed a bug in the command line when no sub-command is specified.

OpenSSL is a robust, fully featured Open Source toolkit implementing the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL v2/v3) and Transport Layer Security (TLS v1) protocols with full-strength cryptography world-wide. The 3.x series is the current major version of OpenSSL.

Changes: The OpenSSL 3.0.4 release introduced a serious bug in the RSA implementation for X86_64 CPUs supporting the AVX512IFMA instructions. This issue makes the RSA implementation with 2048 bit private keys incorrect on such machines and memory corruption will happen during the computation. As a consequence of the memory corruption an attacker may be able to trigger a remote code execution on the machine performing the computation. SSL/TLS servers or other servers using 2048 bit RSA private keys running on machines supporting AVX512IFMA instructions of the X86_64 architecture are affected by this issue. An AES OCB mode issue was also addressed.
