Ubuntu Security Notice 1529-1 - A flaw was discovered in the Linux kernel's macvtap device driver, which is used in KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) to create a network bridge between host and guest. A privileged user in a guest could exploit this flaw to crash the host, if the vhost_net module is loaded with the experimental_zcopytx option enabled. An error was discovered in the Linux kernel's network TUN/TAP device implementation. A local user with access to the TUN/TAP interface (which is not available to unprivileged users until granted by a root user) could exploit this flaw to crash the system or potential gain administrative privileges. Various other issues were also addressed.

Mandriva Linux Security Advisory 2012-110
Posted Jul 24, 2012

Mandriva Linux Security Advisory 2012-110 - Security issues were identified and fixed in mozilla firefox and thunderbird. Mozilla developers identified and fixed several memory safety bugs in the browser engine used in Firefox and other Mozilla-based products. Security researcher Mario Gomes and research firm Code Audit Labs reported a mechanism to short-circuit page loads through drag and drop to the address bar by canceling the page load. This causes the address of the previously site entered to be displayed in the address bar instead of the currently loaded page. This could lead to potential phishing attacks on users. Google security researcher Abhishek Arya used the Address Sanitizer tool to uncover four issues: two use-after-free problems, one out of bounds read bug, and a bad cast. Various other issues were also addressed.

Ubuntu Security Notice 1509-2 - USN-1509-1 fixed vulnerabilities in Firefox. This update provides an updated ubufox package for use with the latest Firefox. Benoit Jacob, Jesse Ruderman, Christian Holler, Bill McCloskey, Brian Smith, Gary Kwong, Christoph Diehl, Chris Jones, Brad Lassey, and Kyle Huey discovered memory safety issues affecting Firefox. If the user were tricked into opening a specially crafted page, an attacker could possibly exploit these to cause a denial of service via application crash, or potentially execute code with the privileges of the user invoking Firefox. Mario Gomes discovered that the address bar may be incorrectly updated. Drag-and-drop events in the address bar may cause the address of the previous site to be displayed while a new page is loaded. An attacker could exploit this to conduct phishing attacks. Various other issues were also addressed.

Umbraco CMS Remote Command Execution
Posted Jul 6, 2012
Authored by juan vazquez, Toby Clarke | Site metasploit.com

This Metasploit module can be used to execute a payload on Umbraco CMS 4.7.0.378. The payload is uploaded as an ASPX script by sending a specially crafted SOAP request to codeEditorSave.asmx, which permits unauthorised file upload via the SaveDLRScript operation. SaveDLRScript is also subject to a path traversal vulnerability, allowing code to be placed into the web-accessible /umbraco/ directory. The module writes, executes and then overwrites an ASPX script; note that though the script content is removed, the file remains on the target. Automatic cleanup of the file is intended if a meterpreter payload is used. This Metasploit module has been tested successfully on Umbraco CMS 4.7.0.378 on a Windows 7 32-bit SP1. In this scenario, the "IIS APPPOOL\ASP.NET v4.0" user must have write permissions on the Windows Temp folder.

Openfire Admin Console Authentication Bypass
Posted Jun 29, 2012
Site metasploit.com

This Metasploit module exploits an authentication bypass vulnerability in the administration console of Openfire servers. By using this vulnerability it is possible to upload/execute a malicious Openfire plugin on the server and execute arbitrary Java code. This Metasploit module has been tested against Openfire 3.6.0a. It is possible to remove the uploaded plugin after execution, however this might turn the server in some kind of unstable state, making re-exploitation difficult. You might want to do this manually.

Zero Day Initiative Advisory 12-106 - This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations of Avaya IP Office Customer Call Reporter. Authentication is not required to exploit this vulnerability. The specific flaw exists because Avaya IP Office Customer Call Reporter allows unauthenticated users to upload files to the webserver through ImageUpload.ashx. The uploaded files will not be stripped of their file extensions and the directory where they are uploaded to has no scripting restrictions. This flaw can lead the remote code execution under the context of the user running the IP Office Customer Call Reporter, usually NETWORK SERVICE.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2012-0880-04 - Qt is a software toolkit that simplifies the task of writing and maintaining GUI applications for the X Window System. HarfBuzz is an OpenType text shaping engine. A buffer overflow flaw was found in the harfbuzz module in Qt. If a user loaded a specially-crafted font file with an application linked against Qt, it could cause the application to crash or, possibly, execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user running the application. A flaw was found in the way Qt handled X.509 certificates with IP address wildcards. An attacker able to obtain a certificate with a Common Name containing an IP wildcard could possibly use this flaw to impersonate an SSL server to client applications that are using Qt. This update also introduces more strict handling for hostname wildcard certificates by disallowing the wildcard character to match more than one hostname component.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2012-0743-01 - The kernel packages contain the Linux kernel, the core of any Linux operating system. A local, unprivileged user could use an integer overflow flaw in drm_mode_dirtyfb_ioctl() to cause a denial of service or escalate their privileges. A buffer overflow flaw was found in the macvtap device driver, used for creating a bridged network between the guest and the host in KVM environments. A privileged guest user in a KVM guest could use this flaw to crash the host. Note: This issue only affected hosts that have the vhost_net module loaded with the experimental_zcopytx module option enabled, and that also have macvtap configured for at least one guest.

This Metasploit module exploits a remote code execution vulnerability in the tsgetx71ex553.dll ActiveX control installed with Tom Sawyer GET Extension Factory due to an incorrect initialization under Internet Explorer. While the Tom Sawyer GET Extension Factory is installed with some versions of VMware Infrastructure Client, this module has been tested only with the versions installed with Embarcadero Technologies ER/Studio XE2 / Embarcadero Studio Portal 1.6. The ActiveX control tested is tsgetx71ex553.dll, version 5.5.3.238. This Metasploit module achieves DEP and ASLR bypass using the well known msvcr71.dll rop chain. The dll is installed by default with the Embarcadero software, and loaded by the targeted ActiveX.

Zero Day Initiative Advisory 12-083 - This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations of Oracle Java. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists in the Java OpenAL (JOAL) library. This library is not installed by default with Java, but it is available as a signed .jar package. The affected jar files are signed with a certificate that is trusted by default JRE installs and as such are downloaded and run without user interaction. Crafted Java applets can reach a call to 'dispatch_alDeleteBuffers1' that takes a user controllable int and uses it as a function pointer. This can lead to remote code execution under the context of the current process.

This Metasploit module exploits a stack buffer overflow in MSCOMCTL.OCX. It uses a malicious RTF to embed the specially crafted MSComctlLib.ListViewCtrl.2 Control as exploited in the wild on April 2012. This Metasploit module targets Office 2007 and Office 2010 targets. The DEP/ASLR bypass on Office 2010 is done with the Ikazuchi ROP chain proposed by Abysssec. This chain uses "msgr3en.dll", which will load after office got load, so the malicious file must be loaded through "File / Open" to achieve exploitation.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2012-0480-01 - The kernel packages contain the Linux kernel, the core of any Linux operating system. This update fixes the following security issue: A flaw in the xfrm6_tunnel_rcv() function in the Linux kernel's IPv6 implementation could lead to a use-after-free or double free flaw in tunnel6_rcv(). A remote attacker could use this flaw to send specially-crafted packets to a target system that is using IPv6 and also has the xfrm6_tunnel kernel module loaded, causing it to crash.
