Red Hat Security Advisory 2012-1166-01 - mod_cluster is an Apache HTTP Server based load balancer that forwards requests from httpd to application server nodes. It can use the AJP, HTTP, or HTTPS protocols for communication with application server nodes. The RHSA-2012:0035 update for JBoss Enterprise Web Server 1.0.2 introduced a regression, causing mod_cluster to register and expose the root context of a server by default, even when "ROOT" was in the "excludedContexts" list in the mod_cluster configuration. If an application was deployed on the root context, a remote attacker could use this flaw to bypass intended access restrictions and gain access to that application.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2012-1141-01 - The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol is a protocol that allows individual devices on an IP network to get their own network configuration information, including an IP address, a subnet mask, and a broadcast address. A denial of service flaw was found in the way the dhcpd daemon handled zero-length client identifiers. A remote attacker could use this flaw to send a specially-crafted request to dhcpd, possibly causing it to enter an infinite loop and consume an excessive amount of CPU time. Two memory leak flaws were found in the dhcpd daemon. A remote attacker could use these flaws to cause dhcpd to exhaust all available memory by sending a large number of DHCP requests.

MIT krb5 Security Advisory 2012-001
Posted Aug 1, 2012

MIT krb5 Security Advisory 2012-001 - The MIT krb5 KDC (Key Distribution Center) daemon can free an uninitialized pointer while processing an unusual AS-REQ, corrupting the process heap and possibly causing the daemon to abnormally terminate. An attacker could use this vulnerability to execute malicious code, but exploiting frees of uninitialized pointers to execute code is believed to be difficult. It is possible that a legitimate client that is misconfigured in an unusual way could trigger this vulnerability. The MIT krb5 KDC daemon can dereference an uninitialized pointer while processing a malformed AS-REQ, causing the daemon to abnormally terminate. This vulnerability could theoretically lead to the execution of malicious code, but that is believed to be very difficult.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2012-1131-01 - Kerberos is a network authentication system which allows clients and servers to authenticate to each other using symmetric encryption and a trusted third-party, the Key Distribution Center. An uninitialized pointer use flaw was found in the way the MIT Kerberos KDC handled initial authentication requests. A remote, unauthenticated attacker could use this flaw to crash the KDC via a specially-crafted AS-REQ request. A NULL pointer dereference flaw was found in the MIT Kerberos administration daemon, kadmind. A Kerberos administrator who has the "create" privilege could use this flaw to crash kadmind.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2012-1072-01 - JBoss Cache is the clustering backbone for data distribution in JBoss Enterprise Web Platform. It provides the backing implementation for web session replication, stateful session bean replication and entity caching. It was found that NonManagedConnectionFactory would log the username and password in plain text when an exception was thrown. This could lead to the exposure of authentication credentials if local users had permissions to read the log file. Warning: Before applying this update, back up your existing JBoss Enterprise Web Platform's "jboss-as-web/server/production/lib/jbosscache-core.jar" file.

Ubuntu Security Notice 1504-1 - It was discovered that Qt did not properly handle wildcard domain names or IP addresses in the Common Name field of X.509 certificates. An attacker could exploit this to perform a man in the middle attack to view sensitive information or alter encrypted communications. This issue only affected Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. A heap-based buffer overflow was discovered in the HarfBuzz module. If a user were tricked into opening a crafted font file in a Qt application, an attacker could cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user invoking the program. Various other issues were also addressed.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2012-0880-04 - Qt is a software toolkit that simplifies the task of writing and maintaining GUI applications for the X Window System. HarfBuzz is an OpenType text shaping engine. A buffer overflow flaw was found in the harfbuzz module in Qt. If a user loaded a specially-crafted font file with an application linked against Qt, it could cause the application to crash or, possibly, execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user running the application. A flaw was found in the way Qt handled X.509 certificates with IP address wildcards. An attacker able to obtain a certificate with a Common Name containing an IP wildcard could possibly use this flaw to impersonate an SSL server to client applications that are using Qt. This update also introduces more strict handling for hostname wildcard certificates by disallowing the wildcard character to match more than one hostname component.

ComSndFTP 1.3.7 Beta USER Format String (Write4)
Posted Jun 14, 2012
Authored by Rick, corelanc0d3r, mr_me, ChaoYi Huang | Site metasploit.com

This Metasploit module exploits the ComSndFTP FTP Server version 1.3.7 beta by sending a specially crafted format string specifier as a username. The crafted username is sent to to the server to overwrite the hardcoded function pointer from Ws2_32.dll!WSACleanup. Once this function pointer is triggered, the code bypasses dep and then repairs the pointer to execute arbitrary code. The SEH exit function is preferred so that the administrators are not left with an unhandled exception message. When using the meterpreter payload, the process will never die, allowing for continuous exploitation.

Zero Day Initiative Advisory 12-092

Zero Day Initiative Advisory 12-092 - This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations of RealNetworks RealPlayer. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists within the way RealPlayer handles audio encoded with the QCELP codec. The codec allows you to specify the 'block_size' that is used. This size is used to create an allocation to hold the data, but a hardcoded blocksize is later used to copy data into that allocation. This could lead to remote code execution under the context of the current user.
