The vulnerability is caused due to the FTP server not properly filtering directory traversal sequences, which can be exploited to e.g. read or write arbitrary files outside the server's root directory by sending specially crafted commands to the server. Successful exploitation to write to files outside of the server's root directory requires write privileges. The vulnerability is confirmed in version 1.2.1. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Restrict access to trusted users only.
