Greil has discovered multiple vulnerabilities in Sawmill, which can be exploited by malicious users to bypass certain security restrictions and by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting attacks, disclose sensitive information, bypass certain security restrictions, and compromise a vulnerable system. 1) Insufficient validation of permissions when accessing template files can be exploited to e.g. reset the administrative password and modify profiles of other users. 2) Input passed via the URL (when "dp" is set to any value) is not properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site. 3) Lack of authentication when executing certain administrative tasks can be exploited to e.g. create administrative users, disclose contents of arbitrary files, and execute shell commands via certain action parameters specified in the URL. The vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 8.1.5.1. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Update to version 8.1.7.3. PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: J.
