The vulnerability is caused due to the "_rtld()" function in libexec/rtld-elf/rtld.c not correctly clearing certain dangerous environment variables before executing suid root processes, which can be exploited to execute arbitrary code with root privileges. The vulnerability is reported in version 7.1 and also confirmed in version 8.0.
