ZDI-09-030: Apple Quicktime PICT Opcode 0x71 Heap Overflow Vulnerability http://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-09-030 June 2, 2009 -- CVE ID: CVE-2009-0010 -- Affected Vendors: Apple -- Affected Products: Apple Quicktime -- TippingPoint(TM) IPS Customer Protection: TippingPoint IPS customers have been protected against this vulnerability by Digital Vaccine protection filter ID 6663. For further product information on the TippingPoint IPS, visit: http://www.tippingpoint.com -- Vulnerability Details: This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations of Apple QuickTime. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists in the parsing of PICT files in QuickTime.qts. While processing data for opcode 0x71 QuickTime trusts a value contained in the file and makes an allocation accordingly. By providing a malicious value this buffer can be undersized and subsequently can be overflowed leading to arbitrary code execution under the context of the user running QuickTime. -- Vendor Response: Apple has issued an update to correct this vulnerability.
