The vulnerability is caused due to a NULL-pointer dereference error in the packet filter ("pf") implementation when performing packet translations. This can be exploited to cause a kernel panic via a specially crafted IP packet. Successful exploitation may require that a translation rule defining a protocol pertaining to an inadequate IP version is configured. The vulnerability is reported in OpenBSD 4.3 and 4.4. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Apply patches. OpenBSD 4.3: ftp://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/patches/4.3/common/013_pf.patch OpenBSD 4.4: ftp://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/patches/4.4/common/013_pf.patch PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: Rembrandt CHANGELOG: 2009-04-13: Updated credits and added reporter link to the "Original Advisory" section.
