DESCRIPTION:
A vulnerability has been reported in Symantec Veritas NetBackup,
which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable
system.

The vulnerability is caused due to an error in the administrative
login process through the Veritas network daemon (vnetd). This can be
exploited to e.g. cause a memory corruption by injecting malformed
server data.

Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code, but may
require e.g. a MitM (Man-in-the-Middle) attack.

The vulnerability is reported in the following products and
versions:
* Symantec Veritas NetBackup Server / Enterprise Server 5.x
* Symantec Veritas NetBackup Server / Enterprise Server 6.0 through
6.0 MP7
* Symantec Veritas NetBackup Server / Enterprise Server 6.5 through
6.5.3

SOLUTION:
Apply patches.

Symantec Veritas NetBackup Server / Enterprise Server 5.x:
5.x versions are no longer supported. Upgrade to a 6.x version and
apply patch.

Symantec Veritas NetBackup Server / Enterprise Server 6.0:
Apply NetBackup 6.0 Maintenance Pack 7 Security Patch 1 (6.0 MP7
S01).

Symantec Veritas NetBackup Server / Enterprise Server 6.5.x:
Apply NetBackup 6.5 Release Update 3 Hotfix 1 (6.5.3.1).
