The security issue is caused due to various scripts (e.g. geo-code.sh and mngca-newmap) handling temporary files in an insecure manner. This can be exploited via symlink attacks to e.g. overwrite arbitrary files with the privileges of the user running the script. SOLUTION: Restrict local access to trusted users only. PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: Reported in GpsDrive by Dmitry E. Oboukhov in a Debian bug report.
