The vulnerability is caused due to the improper handling of DHCP requests within dhcpd in the "cons_options()" function in options.c. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow by sending a specially crafted DHCP request specifying a maximum message size smaller than 278. Successful exploitation may allow the execution of arbitrary code. SOLUTION: Apply vendor patches. OpenBSD 4.0: ftp://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/patches/4.0/common/016_dhcpd.patch OpenBSD 4.1: ftp://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/patches/4.1/common/010_dhcpd.patch OpenBSD 4.2: ftp://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/patches/4.2/common/001_dhcpd.patch PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: Reported by the vendor.
