Input passed to the "search" parameter in user/index.php (when "id" is set to a valid course) is not properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site. Successful exploitation requires that the target user is using Internet Explorer. In the default configuration of Moodle, it also requires that the target user has valid user credentials. The vulnerability is confirmed in version 1.8.1 and reported in version 1.7.1. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised.
