The improvements will help our customers to get a better understanding of how we reached our conclusions, how it was rated, our thoughts on exploitation, attack vectors, and scenarios. This includes: * Reason for rating * Extended description * Extended solution * Exploit code or links to exploit code * Deep links Read the full description: http://corporate.secunia.com/products/48/?r=l Contact Secunia Sales for more information: http://corporate.secunia.com/how_to_buy/15/?r=l ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TITLE: Linux NetKit FTP Server Information Disclosure and Privilege Escalation SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA22816 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/22816/ CRITICAL: Less critical IMPACT: Exposure of sensitive information, Privilege escalation WHERE: Local system SOFTWARE: Linux NetKit FTP Server 0.x http://secunia.com/product/12560/ DESCRIPTION: Paul Szabo has reported some vulnerabilities in the Linux NetKit FTP Server, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to gain knowledge of potentially sensitive information, or perform certain actions with escalated privileges. 1) The Linux NetKit FTP Server does not correctly drop privileges before changing into certain directories. This can be exploited to gain access to otherwise not accessible information and may allow to gain escalated privileges via symlink attacks if a NFS filesystem is used. 2) The return values of "seteuid()" and similar calls are not correctly checked. This can be exploited to perform certain actions with e.g. root privileges if the calls fail due to e.g. resource limits. SOLUTION: Restrict access to trusted users only or use another product.
