DESCRIPTION:
Paul Szabo has reported some vulnerabilities in the Linux NetKit FTP
Server, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to gain
knowledge of potentially sensitive information, or perform certain
actions with escalated privileges.

1) The Linux NetKit FTP Server does not correctly drop privileges
before changing into certain directories. This can be exploited to
gain access to otherwise not accessible information and may allow to
gain escalated privileges  via symlink attacks if a NFS filesystem is
used.

2) The return values of "seteuid()" and similar calls are not
correctly checked. This can be exploited to perform certain actions
with e.g. root privileges if the calls fail due to e.g. resource
limits.

SOLUTION:
Restrict access to trusted users only or use another product.
