TITLE: phpwcms Cross-Site Scripting and Local File Inclusion SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA20239 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/20239/ CRITICAL: Moderately critical IMPACT: Cross Site Scripting, Exposure of sensitive information, System access WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: phpwcms 1.x http://secunia.com/product/6129/ DESCRIPTION: trueend5 has discovered a vulnerability in phpwcms, which potentially can be exploited by malicious users to compromise a vulnerable system, and by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting attacks and disclose potentially sensitive information. 1) Input passed to the "spaw_root" parameter in "/include/inc_ext/spaw/spaw_control.class.php" is not properly verified before being used to include files. This can be exploited to include arbitrary files from local resources. It is reportedly possible for an authenticated user to upload image files containing PHP code as EXIF metadata into the "/picture/upload/" directory and executing the code by including it. Successful exploitation requires that "register_globals" is enabled and "magic_quotes_gpc" is disabled. 2) Input passed to the "BL[be_cnt_plainhtml]" parameter in "/include/inc_tmpl/content/cnt6.inc.php" and other template files is not properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site. Successful exploitation requires that "register_globals" is enabled. The vulnerabilities have been confirmed in version 1.2.6 and also reported in 1.2.5-DEV. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly verified.
