TITLE: csDoom Format String and Buffer Overflow Vulnerabilities SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA19389 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/19389/ CRITICAL: Highly critical IMPACT: DoS, System access WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: csDoom 0.x http://secunia.com/product/8926/ DESCRIPTION: Luigi Auriemma has reported some vulnerabilities in csDoom, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) and potentially to compromise a vulnerable system. 1) A boundary error exists in the "SV_BroadcastPrintf()" function within the handling of chat messages that are sent from a client. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow and may allow arbitrary code execution. 2) A boundary error exists in the "SV_SetupUserInfo()" function within the handling of user's nickname and teamname when a player joins the server. This can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow, which crashes the server. 3) A format string error exists in the "PrintString()" function when displaying text strings in the console and in the game screen. This can be exploited to crash the client or the server and may allow arbitrary code execution. The vulnerabilities have been reported in version 0.7 and prior. SOLUTION: The vulnerabilities have reportedly been fixed in the latest copy that was released on 2006-03-25.
