TITLE: Gadu-Gadu Multiple Vulnerabilities and Weaknesses SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA17597 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/17597/ CRITICAL: Moderately critical IMPACT: Security Bypass, Exposure of sensitive information, DoS WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: Gadu-Gadu 7.x http://secunia.com/product/6174/ DESCRIPTION: PSNC Security Team has reported some vulnerabilities and weaknesses in Gadu-Gadu, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service), bypass certain security restrictions, and disclose sensitive information. 1) An input validation error in the handling of image file transfers can be exploited to block the thread responsible for handling messages by sending an image with a specially crafted filename (e.g. "AUX:"). This can also be exploited to write arbitrary content to the printer by sending an image with the "LPT:" filename. 2) A boundary error in the handling of image file transfers can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow by sending an image with an overly long filename (between 192 and 200 bytes). Successful exploitation causes a DoS. 3) Some errors in the handling of direct connections can be exploited to consume a large amount of memory resources and trigger multiple error prompts on a vulnerable system by sending multiple specially crafted DCC packets. 4) An error in the handling of the "gg:" URI handler can be exploited to crash the client by tricking a user into opening a malicious web site with multiple references to the "gg:" URI handler. Successful exploitation may cause the configuration to be lost. 5) The problem is that the "EasycallLite.oce" ActiveX object insecurely exposes certain functionality, which can be exploited by a malicious web site to make outgoing phone calls. Successful exploitation allows disclosure of sound from the microphone, but requires that the user is tricked into visiting a malicious web site. The vulnerabilities and weaknesses have been reported in version 7.20 and prior. SOLUTION: Update to version 7 build 22. http://www.gadu-gadu.pl/ PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: Blazej Miga and Jaroslaw Sajko, PSNC Security Team ---------------------------------------------------------------------- About: This Advisory was delivered by Secunia as a free service to help everybody keeping their systems up to date against the latest vulnerabilities.
