TITLE: Rpm Finder "web()" Buffer Overflow and Insecure File Creation SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA13635 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/13635/ CRITICAL: Moderately critical IMPACT: Privilege escalation, System access WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: Rosiello Rpm Finder (rpf) 1.x http://secunia.com/product/4453/ DESCRIPTION: Two vulnerabilities have been reported in Rpm Finder, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system and by malicious, local users to perform certain actions with escalated privileges. 1) A boundary error in the "web()" function when handling data from a remote server can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow by tricking a user into connecting to a malicious web server. 2) Insecure creation of files can be exploited via symlink attacks to truncate arbitrary files with the privileges of the user running rpf. The vulnerabilities have been reported in version 1.2.2. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Update to version 1.2.3. http://www.rosiello.org/en/read_projects.php?id=2 PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: de_aap, Slotto Corleone and percy, vlad902. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- About: This Advisory was delivered by Secunia as a free service to help everybody keeping their systems up to date against the latest vulnerabilities.
