TITLE: Plesk "login_name" Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA12368 VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/12368/ CRITICAL: Less critical IMPACT: Cross Site Scripting WHERE: >From remote SOFTWARE: Plesk 7.x http://secunia.com/product/3833/ DESCRIPTION: Sourvivor has reported a vulnerability in Plesk, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting attacks. Input passed to the "login_name" parameter in "login_up.php3" is not sanitised before being returned to users. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of a vulnerable site by tricking a user into visiting a malicious website or follow a specially crafted link. Example: http://[host]:8443/login_up.php3?login_name=">[code] The vulnerability has been reported in versions 7.0.0 and 7.1. Version 6.0 is reportedly not affected. SOLUTION: Edit the source to ensure that input is properly sanitised. Filter malicious characters and character sequences in a proxy server or firewall with URL filtering capabilities.
