-- Coinvox Euro -- ThEcYnicaLonE ( #phreakers @ irc.rizenet.org ) -- 2 februari 2003 The Coinvox Euro is a payphone used a lot in the Netherlands. The producer of this payphone is KPN, a Dutch telecommunication company, which made a lot more of these payphones. The problem in these pay phones, is the fact that they have standard configurations which are almost never modified. That gives people the chance to call free with these phones. In the manuals that KPN provides with these payphones, they say: "We've secured the Coinvox against vandalism, fraud, and theft. It's not possible for us to secure our phones 100%". And they're right. There are a lot of standard configurations made in the Coinvox. These are the following; - Coins unit; Euro - Language; Dutch - Incoming calls; Blocked - Time; Not programmed - Personal tarives; Empty - Minimum; 0,20 Euro - PIN code; 0000 The very stupidious thing is, that the owner (it's supposed to be the owner) can call without paying. He only has to press *, than enter his PIN code, and he has to end with an #. But the standard PIN code is 0000, and almost everybody leaves this code unchanged. So you only have to enter *0000# to call for free. Actually, you can have a lot more fun with the Coinvox Euro, instead of only calling for free. There is also a button at the payphone, which is used to call the last number what was called. If you press that button, and then enter the pincode (which is often 0000), you can change the PIN code, so you will be the only one who can call for free with it. Once you did this, you've got control over the whole payphone. If you want to leave the Coinvox-menu, you simply press *. There is also a function called ToetsBijBezet included with the Coinvox Euro. With this function you can make a call-back, and the costs are for the owner of the Coinvox. If you call a number and the line is busy, you simply press 5 and you get a call back when the phone-line is free again. You don't need to insert coins, and the costs are for the owner. If you got control over the Coinvox with the PIN code, you can change the configuration that incoming calls are blocked. If you unblock this, you can make collect-calls to the payphone. The standard configuration is that these incoming calls are blocked. The Coinvox is configured that 090x lines are blocked. These are service numbers, and there has to be payed for these. 0800-numbers, which are toll-free numbers, can be dialed. There are a few 0900-numbers where people can call to. These are 0900-8008, 0900-8418, 0900-9292 and the number of the police (if it aint emergency), 0900-8844. There is a table where you can unblock the calling of 0900-numbers. Well, that's it for now.
