Background ========= FreeType is a high-quality and portable font engine. Affected packages ================ ------------------------------------------------------------------- Package / Vulnerable / Unaffected ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 media-libs/freetype < 2.10.3-r1 >= 2.10.3-r1 Description ========== A flaw in FreeType's handling of embedded PNG bitmaps was discovered where the image height and width was not checked to be within bounds. Impact ===== A remote attacker could entice a user to open a specially crafted font file using FreeType possibly resulting in the execution of arbitrary code with the privileges of the process or a Denial of Service condition. Workaround ========= There is no known workaround at this time. Resolution ========= All FreeType users should upgrade to the latest version: # emerge --sync # emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose ">=media-libs/freetype-2.10.3-r1" References ========= [ 1 ] CVE-2020-15999 https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2020-15999 [ 2 ] Upstream bug https://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/?59308 Availability =========== This GLSA and any updates to it are available for viewing at the Gentoo Security Website: https://security.gentoo.org/glsa/202010-07 Concerns? ======== Security is a primary focus of Gentoo Linux and ensuring the confidentiality and security of our users' machines is of utmost importance to us.
