The vulnerability is caused due to an error in the "ppm2tiff" utility (tools/ppm2tiff.c) when parsing images and can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow via a specially crafted e.g. PPM image. Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code, but requires tricking a user into converting a malicious image. The vulnerability is reported in version 4.0.3. Other versions may also be affected. SOLUTION: Fixed in the source code repository.
