CVE-2020-11494

Status Candidate

Overview

An issue was discovered in slc_bump in drivers/net/can/slcan.c in the Linux kernel 3.16 through 5.6.2. It allows attackers to read uninitialized can_frame data, potentially containing sensitive information from kernel stack memory, if the configuration lacks CONFIG_INIT_STACK_ALL, aka CID-b9258a2cece4.

Kernel Live Patch Security Notice LSN-0072-1
Posted Oct 14, 2020
Authored by Benjamin M. Romer

It was discovered that the F2FS file system implementation in the Linux kernel did not properly perform bounds checking on xattrs in some situations. A local attacker could possibly use this to expose sensitive information (kernel memory). It was discovered that the Serial CAN interface driver in the Linux kernel did not properly initialize data. A local attacker could use this to expose sensitive information (kernel memory). Other issues where also addressed.

Ubuntu Security Notice 4369-2 - USN-4369-1 fixed vulnerabilities in the 5.3 Linux kernel. Unfortunately, that update introduced a regression in overlayfs. This update corrects the problem. It was discovered that the btrfs implementation in the Linux kernel did not properly detect that a block was marked dirty in some situations. An attacker could use this to specially craft a file system image that, when unmounted, could cause a denial of service. Various other issues were also addressed.

An attacker could use this to specially craft a file system image that, when unmounted, could cause a denial of service. Tristan Madani discovered that the file locking implementation in the Linux kernel contained a race condition. A local attacker could possibly use this to cause a denial of service or expose sensitive information. Various other issues were also addressed.

Ubuntu Security Notice 4364-1 - It was discovered that the ADIS16400 IIO IMU Driver for the Linux kernel did not properly deallocate memory in certain error conditions. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service. It was discovered that the vhost net driver in the Linux kernel contained a stack buffer overflow. A local attacker with the ability to perform ioctl calls on /dev/vhost-net could use this to cause a denial of service. Various other issues were also addressed.
