DESCRIPTION:
A vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft Windows, which can be
exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system.
The vulnerability is caused due to a signedness error in the
"CreateSizedDIBSECTION()" function within shimgvw.dll when parsing
thumbnail bitmaps. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based
buffer overflow via a specially crafted thumbnail image containing a
negative "biClrUsed" value.
Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code when a
user e.g. views a malicious web page or Office document.
SOLUTION:
The vendor recommends restricting access to shimgvw.dll.
