DESCRIPTION:
A weakness has been reported in MailScanner, which can be exploited
by malicious, local users to cause a DoS (Denial of Service).
The weakness is caused due to the "update_virus_scanners" script
using /tmp/MailScanner.autoupdate.lock in an insecure manner to
determine if it needs to perform an update run. This can be exploited
to prevent the script from updating correctly by e.g. creating the
lock file and keeping its modification time updated.
The weakness is reported in version 4.81.4-1. Other versions may also
be affected.
SOLUTION:
Restrict access to trusted users only.
PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY:
Reported by Raphael Geissert in a Debian bug report.
