DESCRIPTION:
Nijel the Destroyer has discovered some vulnerabilities in Spitfire,
which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct cross-site
scripting and cross-site request forgery attacks.
1) The application allows users to perform certain actions via HTTP
requests without performing proper validity checks to verify the
requests. This can be exploited to e.g. add administrative users by
tricking a logged-in administrative user into visiting a malicious
web site.
2) Input passed via the URL to cms/login/error.php, the "name"
parameter to cms/edit/cont_index.php (if "tpl" is set to "compare"),
the "name" parameter to cms/edit/index.php (if "tpl" is set to
"edit"), the "text" parameter to cms/edit/tpl_backup_action.php,
cms/edit/tpl_user_settings_action.php,
cms/edit/tpl_welcome_action.php, cms/edit/tpl_ticket_action.php,
cms/edit/tpl_system_settings_action.php,
cms/edit/tpl_show_history_action.php,
cms/edit/tpl_show_changes_action.php,
cms/edit/tpl_show_archive_action.php,
cms/edit/tpl_set_ticket_action.php,
cms/edit/tpl_list_settings_action.php,
cms/edit/tpl_i18n_settings_action.php,
cms/edit/tpl_element_settings_action.php,
cms/edit/tpl_compare_action.php, and
cms/edit/tpl_user_management_action.php (if "action" is set to
"message") is not properly sanitised before being returned to the
user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code
in a user's browser session in context of an affected site.
3) Input passed via the URL, the "search" parameter to
site/cont_index.php, and the "content" parameter to site/tpl_demo.php
is not properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can
be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's
browser session in context of an affected site.
Note: This may only affect Spitfire versions including the "empty
site".
The vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 1.0.381 (displayed as
version 1.0.0). Other versions may also be affected.
SOLUTION:
Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised.
