DESCRIPTION:
A vulnerability has been reported in OPIE, which can be exploited by
malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) and potentially
compromise a vulnerable system.
The vulnerability is caused due to an off-by-one error within the
"__opiereadrec()" function in readrec.c and can be exploited to write
a single NULL byte outside the bounds of a stack-based buffer.
Successful exploitation requires access to a running OPIE capable
service.
The vulnerability is reported in version 2.4. Other versions may also
be affected.
SOLUTION:
Restrict access to services using the library to trusted hosts only.
