TITLE:
CompactCMS TinyBrowser File Upload Security Issues
SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA39841
VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/39841/
DESCRIPTION:
ITSecTeam has discovered some security issues in CompactCMS, which
can be exploited by malicious people to bypass certain security
restrictions and compromise a vulnerable system.
1) Access to the enabled TinyBrowser component is not properly
restricted, which can be exploited to e.g upload files of certain
types.
2) An error exists due to the TinyBrowser component allowing uploads
of files with multiple extensions. This can be exploited to upload
and execute arbitrary PHP code.
Successful exploitation of this security issue requires a certain
server configuration (e.g. an Apache server with the "mod_mime"
module installed).
The security issues are confirmed in version 1.4.0. Other versions
may also be affected.
SOLUTION:
Restrict access to the
admin/includes/tiny_mce/plugins/tinybrowser/upload.php directory
(e.g. via .htaccess)
