VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/38653/

DESCRIPTION:
A weakness has been reported in some Symantec products, which can
potentially be exploited to bypass the scanning functionality.

The weakness is caused due to an unspecified error in the on-demand
scanning functionality, which can potentially be exploited to bypass
the scan via another entity that denies read access to Symantec
AntiVirus or Symantec Enterprise Protection.

Successful exploitation requires that Tamper Protection is disabled
and an attacker is able to pass certain events to the application.

The weakness is reported in Symantec AntiVirus 10.0.x and 10.1.x, and
10.2.x, Symantec Client Security 3.0.x and 3.1.x, and Symantec
Endpoint Protection 11.x.

SOLUTION:
-- Symantec AntiVirus --

Symantec AntiVirus 10.0.x, 10.1.x:
Update to MR9 and ensure Tamper Protection is enabled.

Symantec AntiVirus 10.2.x:
Ensure Tamper Protection is enabled.

-- Symantec Client Security --

Symantec Client Security 3.0.x, 3.1.x:
Update to MR9 and ensure Tamper Protection is enabled.

-- Symantec Endpoint Protection --

Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.x:
Ensure Tamper Protection is enabled.
